FHI-Sponsored Sessions at the International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific

Asia Pacific Regional Office, Bangkok, August 5, 2009 -

Family Health International will co-sponsor a number of satellite sessions and symposia at the 9th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP) taking place in Bali, Indonesia, from August 9-13, 2009.

 

Join FHI staff from Asia and the Pacific as they present on topics of key interest to the region, including drug use and men who have sex with men, integrating palliative care into primary HIV care services, unmet reproductive health needs of female sex workers, and regional approaches to caring for children and families affected by HIV.

MSM and HIV in Asia and the Pacific: Cross-Cutting Issues

Co-sponsored by Family Health International, Asia Pacific Coalition on Male Sexual Health (APCOM), and World Health Organization (Western Pacific Region)

 

This session will explore key cross-cutting issues that affect men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender (TG) populations, including factors impeding access to adequate health and social services, and underlying health disparities and vulnerabilities among these populations and their partners.

Caring for Children and Families Affected by HIV in Concentrated and Low-Level Epidemics: Government and Community Responses that Are Making a Difference

This session will highlight promising examples programs working to provide family- and community-centered care to children affected by HIV. Presenters will provide practical information on how to integrate care for children into existing HIV programs and community development efforts. Where's the Care? Palliative Care as Cornerstone of Comprehensive HIV Services in the Era of ART

Co-sponsored by Family Health International and WHO (South East Asia Region and Western Pacific Region)

 

This satellite session will highlight programs which are providing palliative care through a continuum of care and demonstrating high client retention, adherence, and survival rates. The session will also explore the challenges of providing comprehensive care at scale. Participants will receive resources and tools to help guide the re-integration of HIV palliative care and support services in existing ART sites.

Strengthening and Deepening Networks on Children Affected by HIV/AIDS in Asia/Pacific

Organized by the Coalition on Children Affected by AIDS (CCABA) in partnership with Family Health International, UNICEF, International HIV/AIDS Alliance, World Vision International, Childfund Philippines, and AIDS Education Programme (AEP) Thailand

 

This session will provide a forum to begin the formalization and expansion of an Regional Inter-Agency Task Team (RIATT) on Children and HIV and AIDS in Asia/Pacific and the establishment of sub-networks on children affected by HIV and AIDS in the region. It will begin to build a stronger and more vocal constituency around these issues and raise the profile of children affected by HIV and AIDS in Asia/Pacific within the HIV/AIDS field and at the national and local levels.
